新专辑距离上张获得格莱美五座奖杯的"How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb"已有五年的时间，新作延续了以往传统的流行硬式摇滚风格，舞曲和实验电子曲风也只是在"Stand Up Comedy"、"Stand Up Comedy"、"Fez–Being Born"三首歌曲中稍纵即逝。不过老牌就是老牌，一点改变、两首突出、一些坚持，已足以好评如潮。

这首歌出自伦敦乐队The Leisure Society的首张专辑"The Sleeper"，乐队以词曲作者、吉他手Nick Hemming和歌手、器乐手Christian Hardy为核心。他们创作干净、怀旧的民谣，内里透着股Ray Davies般的讽刺和反复无常的韵律，可以听得出Hemming的创作深受九十年代独立乐队She Talks To Angels、Unisex的影响。

这张专辑给听者的感受，想必除了优美还有温和与乐观。我们听那首"A Short Weekend Begins With Longing"，Hemming波涛汹涌的民谣吉他结合着小提琴，形成乐观向上的音乐漩涡，"Fine for a while/we were happy until it died"我们也需要这样超越黑暗的乐观来迎接不可知的未来。

Mando Diao的音乐中有着浓重的Britpop味道，注重弦乐、风格多变，快速的吉他节奏和轻快的鼓点带来风驰电掣的力量。这次的新专辑可谓对以往作品风格的完美混合，又不乏新鲜感受。

"Blue lining, blue lining, blue lining white trench coat"恐怕是你听过后几个小时里大脑会不断重复的歌词，作为专辑的开场曲，确实有着让人穿上白色风衣跟着跳舞的魔力。

"Dance With Somebody"在专辑发行前已经以单曲的形式在各个音乐频道和电台被我们熟知，"I'm gonna dance with somebody, dance with somebody, dance, dance, dance"又一曲引诱我们起舞的旋律。

接下来的"Gloria"、"Mean Street"属于他们标志性的Garage Rock作品，尤其是那首"it's all done in the mean street"的"Mean Street"，有趣得让人潜入回忆。

"High Heels"的爵士风格使它成为整张专辑中当之无愧的异色和亮点，而且这首歌非常适合夜晚聆听。

08年导演Sam Mendes再次回到了自己熟悉的领域，率领Kate Winslet、Leonardo DiCaprio前往Richard Yates于60年代塑造的"Revolutionary Road"。从"Revolutionary Road"这个住宅区的名字可以看出它象征着50年代战后美国人的自由精神，但是像Frank和April Wheeler这样众多的夫妻却屈尊在这一精神之下，过着乏味的生活。Frank日复一日地乘坐火车进入城市工作，身为一名白领贩卖着所谓的"business machines",April是一位曾有着演员梦想的家庭主妇。从表面上看，他们取得了中产阶级的美国梦，而事实上，他们的婚姻已经恶化到了频频争吵乃至出轨的地步，在任何形式的交流面前覆水难收。

Richard Yates的原著小说中塑造了Frank和April两位颇具象征意义的现实主义和理想主义者，当然鉴于文学作品的人物真实性，两种特质被隐藏并嫁接在了婚姻之中，在我看来这是相当残酷和黑暗的，正如婚姻和爱情的难以交融。摩擦、碰撞...直到出轨被轻描淡写、交流已无济于事，呈现的只是形式不同的破灭罢了。

如果说《American Beauty》在展现黑暗时刻到来之时还不忘带点令人苦笑的幽默，那么《Revolutionary Road》则是一个纯粹的悲剧，毫无缓刑、细致入微地解剖着一个注定的悲剧。从影片开场几分钟Frank和April教科书级的一见钟情，到后来灵魂疤痕在喧哗中的暴露，以及夫妇试图重建现实与理想之和谐的斗争，我们就像在看恐怖片一样端视着这场悲剧的惨烈，不可抗拒地被画面中的情感渗透到同样失败的记忆里。

影片最后，Sam Mendes用几个镜头交代了"Revolutionary Road"的结局，无论是Frank孤独地看着公园里荡秋千的儿女满脸苦笑，还是邻居老者在老伴的絮叨声中默默戴上耳机，都印证着生活长久之后无言以对的悲凉，无法挽回或者无可奈何。

"For Emma, Forever Ago"就属于后者。令人沉思，充满着自然的图像和漫不经心的原声弹奏。一个男人的声音，孤独的只剩下一些回忆和一把吉他。Bon Iver的风格很容易被人拿来与Iron & Wine相提并论，因为同样的quiet folk和令人安静的亲密感。
